This is the house that got me researching homebuying. I went and talked to a housing counselor who told me that I needed to work on a budget and consider taking out a student loan instead of paying for school out-of-pocket, but that otherwise I'm in good shape to look at buying a house. I'm kind of in love with it. It's got a decent-sized yard that just needs a little more fencing to make it dog-safe. It's 3 minutes from work (I checked). It has a basement (don't forget that I live in Kansas!) The inside is outdated; wood paneling and brown carpet, yuck. But that's easily fixed. Perhaps one of the best things about this place is the neighborhood. It's exactly the area I've been looking at, a nice tree-lined neighborhood close to parks, the zoo, the civic theater and work. And they just dropped the price so that it's even further within my price range. BUT in order to qualify for government assistance I have to attend a class. The next class is in November! I think there are a couple of programs that one of the local banks has that would allow me to qualify for a home loan. I'm torn on what I should do. Is it better to go ahead and try to buy something I love now, or wait and hope to find something I like just as much later?

Spare room?

P.S....on the alien check, is that rr or m?
Looks Gorgeous! If you're thinking of leaving for seminary one day - I wouldn't buy now though. The investment is only normally worth it if you plan to stay there at least 5 years.
There are 2 bedrooms, Sci. I might get a roomate (if, you know, I get the house) but there's always room for you.
p.s. I have no idea

It'll be at least 2 years before I get my bachelor's. Attending St. Paul's in K.C. while living in Topeka is definitely possible, lots of people live farther away, and that'll be at least another 3 years. But buying in Topeka would pretty much force me to go to St. Paul's. I really loved it when I visited last winter, but then again it's the ONLY seminary I've visited so far.
It's basically coming down to a choice between buying a house or staying with Mom and Dad. Which is actually working out very well. With our schedules we hardly see each other and when we do spend time together we get along beautifully. And I AM paying them rent. But it's not exactly socially acceptable to live with one's parents at my age.
Lots to think about...
So any developments on the home front?
For what it's worth... I think it's fine for you to be at home with your parents, as long as the arrangement works for both parties - which it seems to; and that there is some kind of long-term goal in sight. Which of course there is!
It is a really darling house though!!!
PS Hammie is behaving himself a lot better these days! We tell him to "Leave it" before big dogs reach us... and he seems to be a little less vicious! (well as vicious as a 8 pd fur ball can be!!)
